A warm welcome to the Manchester Fashion Institute Graduate Showcase, ‘Opening Space’, celebrating the 2021 graduating cohorts from our fashion design, communication and business undergraduate programmes.

In response to the pandemic these graduates have adapted to living and working from smaller spaces with reduced access to resources and materials. Yet they have shown incredible resilience and resourcefulness, and through adversity we have seen innovation, originality, and a sense of responsibility for the social, environmental, and ethical impact of fashion.

This graduate showcase is a literal ‘Opening Space’ for the class of 2021 as they move from working independently in the confines of their homes to a large-scale virtual exhibition. It is an opportunity to open, share and come together to celebrate after a year of closed spaces and social distance.

We invite you to visit our programme pages where you can meet the graduates, follow their journeys, and explore their work, ideas, and reflections. You are also invited to our ‘Opening Space’ events series, which includes a virtual gallery and catwalk show, themed panel sessions and links through to showcase events at Graduate Fashion Week and London Fashion Week.

We are very proud of all your achievements, and we look forward to watching you grow into fashion leaders, entrepreneurs, practitioners, innovators, and activists.
