OPENING SPACE: EVENT SCHEDULE
To celebrate our students’ successes and achievements we are hosting a series of exciting digital events. Including a digital gallery exhibition film, digital catwalks and student-led panel discussions. These will all be streamed through our YouTube channel or hosted on Zoom – and then archived here for you to watch if you miss them.
There are also a wealth of events taking place across the wider Faculty of Art and Humanities digital platforms – at Manchester School of Art and Manchester School of Architecture.

Our Opening Space digital showcase launches with a welcome message from Professor Liz Barnes, Head of Manchester Fashion Institute.

OPENING SPACE: EXHIBITION
Our Opening Space exhibition film celebrates the work of our BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction 2021 graduates. The image-based work explores topics from sustainability and technology through to identity and freedom and has been on show in Manchester Metropolitan University’s Holden Gallery and filmed for a public experience. The short film includes interviews with selected graduates discussing their experiences of studying at Manchester Fashion Institute.

OPENING SPACE: CATWALKS
Our digital catwalks showcase the diversity and breadth of creative output from our fashion design courses – BA (Hons) Fashion and BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Technology. Highlighting the students’ creative practice, technical skills, use of colour/fabrication, ability to develop a look, exploration of technical pattern cutting, silhouette development and contemporary application of traditional textiles and craft techniques within Menswear, Womenswear and Sportswear design.

GRADUATE FASHION WEEK
As a Graduate Fashion Foundation member, we are taking part in this year’s Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) – the biggest undergraduate showcase of fashion talent in the world. GFW gives new graduates the valuable visibility they need to begin conversations and establish connections with potential recruiters, buyers, stylist and media. The globally renowned event will highlight the work from the brightest graduate fashion talent through catwalks, exhibitions, showrooms and more.

London Fashion Week
London Fashion Week June 2021 will take place digitally, showcasing menswear and womenswear on one online platform. We’re proud to be showcasing a fashion film through LFW, featuring collections from our BA Fashion and BA Fashion Design and Technology graduates. The film will be included in the Explore section of the platform, under Class of 2021, during LFW Saturday 12th – Monday 14th June and will remain available throughout the year.

FASHION IN FOCUS: PANEL DISCUSSIONS
These two online events celebrate the work of our graduating students from a range of our programmes at Manchester Fashion Institute. These conversations provide a platform for our graduates to talk about their work and experiences linked to a theme – enterprise or diversity – and reflect on their academic and professional development.
