In my work there is a focus on the blurring lines of what gender actually means, I feel that as designers we should constantly provoke the meaning of gender and play around with exploring between the two. When designing there is never a specific gender in mind fo rme, however my design aesthetic usually leans more towards the gay male. I believe that as the path towards a more fluid world occurs and genderless clothing becomes more mainstream, it will continue to inspire my design process. I feel as a designer especially within my design aesthetic it is also important to constantly provoke what can be defined as the norm, whether it be exploring what is considered traditional or pushing cutting techniques to create innovative ideas.
This project is based on a narrative around The Fabulous ‘Freak F*g’ poised on the corner of the street with their fur bag drowned in alcohol, in what they think is the most extravagant and dramatic silhouette, waiting for their Uber at 6am. The momentum of dancing, competing and singing in the gay clubs all night has quickly worn off. But now a different momentum consumes this sanguine and self-assured personality. The silent judgement of those on their way to work; brushing past, averting the gaze of this fabulous ‘Freak’, with the sound of their office heels echoing in the distance.
