Fashion
BA (Hons) — 3 or 4 Years Full-Time
The BA (Hons) Fashion programme has an excellent reputation for producing fashion graduates who are employed for their creativity, originality, versatility, and professional skills.
The Programme focuses on contemporary fashion design and encourages students to be creative and experimental while challenging the conventions of fashion and textile design practices.
Students follow an arts-based studio practice model through which they develop concepts and ideas using in-depth research processes and experimentation, learning how to design and make original fashion outcomes with a focus on contemporary craftsmanship. Students learn essential skills for designing and making, including the opportunity to develop a textile specialism such as knit, print or embroidery.
Our students have great experiences with outside organisations and fashion brands while on the programme. These opportunities have included live projects with Kenzo, DKNY and Alexander McQueen as well as collaborations and exchanges with partner universities in Paris, Oslo, Sydney and Shanghai.
Students have also worked with some great companies, both on placements during their time at Manchester Fashion Institute and after graduation. These companies include:
ACNE / JW Anderson / Boden / Celine / Tom Ford / Givenchy / Craig Green / Erdem / H&M / Gieves & Hawkes / River Island / Mary Katranzou / Levis / Roland Mouret / Martine Rose / Paul Smith / Top Man / TopShop / Urban Outfitters / Zandra Rhodes.
Graduates have also gone on to launch their own labels including: Adam Jones / Matthew Miller / Daniel Pollitt / Aitor Throup
Duration: 3 years full-time, 4 years with placement year and/or overseas study
This programme is accredited by The Textile Institute, the leading professional body for promoting professionalism in the textile industries. Students may fast track and apply for globally recognised professional qualifications after a shorter period of work experience and in some cases directly upon graduation.
