Business Partnerships
Manchester Fashion institute offer a wide variety of academic-led and impact driven activities to serve the private and public sectors as well as local community organisations. Our knowledge exchange projects focus on delivering cost benefits to industry, government and community partners as well as highlighting key engagement opportunities for students and graduates.
Manchester Fashion Institute have long term partnerships with fashion and sportswear retailers and manufacturers alongside an established successful relationship with HMP Prison Industries.
Recent knowledge exchange work (both regionally and nationally) has focused on the redesign and technical manufacturing specifications for UK Garment PPE for NHS front line workers as a result of the pandemic.
Sustainability is a key focus for our industry sector and a key initiative is currently sponsored by Manchester City football club (MCFC). This work evaluates the potential value and benefits of upcycling football shirts into hospital gowns for children under-going a surgical procedure in The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Sponsored student projects at all levels are a current success story for Manchester Fashion Institute with a current Innovate UK sponsored Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) in in the wearable sportswear technology sector. Companies also have the opportunity to sponsor student work at Masters Level in an established sponsored dissertation programme that has been implemented successfully across the university.

Our knowledge exchange activity is also driven by a desire to create positive social impact such as our recent work with the NHS and our continued involvement with local social enterprises and national charities
