Folklore craft, in particular the traditional Eastern European way of embellishing, together with my family traditions have always a great impact on the way I think about creating and design in general. In my practice I focus on finding an inspiration in old and translate it into something contemporary. I believe it is important to preserve and expand past techniques, learn those hand-made methods and develop them using current technology. I always come back to the nature as a reference, especially flowers, but also spirituality and symbols as I feel personal connection to those areas. I usually contrast all these aspects with something contemporary like city architecture or latest gallery exhibitions. I have developed a broader understanding of fashion’s impact on the environment during my time on the BA Fashion programme and this has led me to focus more on sustainable methods of working.
I am a womenswear designer focused on high end design and sustainability. Creative cut, experimental work through sampling and working on the stand defines my silhouettes and that is the most influential part of my designing process. I always look at different methods of fabric manipulation such as pleating or gathering in various ways, emphasising the feminine aspect of my designs but also creating more interesting silhouettes and volume. I always try to create structurally interesting shapes but comfortable at the same time. I believe it is important to create garments that are functional but also elegant. The feel of the garments I make are the key to my practice, that is the reason I use good quality fabrics. Equally important aspects in my practice are print, laser cut, hand embroidery and beading. This is all underpinned with a sustainable approach to sourcing fabrics and the processes I undertake to create.
