My Inspiration for the collection is Ikigai, which refers to having a direction or purpose in life, providing a sense of fulfilment, towards which the person may take actions, giving satisfaction and a sense of meaning. Ikigai is the reason to get up every morning according to Japanese people. I believe that to find Ikigai is to find a balance in this fast-paced world. I have designed some unconventional mountainous silhouettes for millennial men to provide a sense of comfort and sheltered feeling in this uncertain world. I have been very conscious about the fabric choices for this collection and have selected linen, kala cotton, rose stem and hemp fabrics. I have chosen these fabrics because “Sustainability is no longer an option but an imperative” (Sustainability is no longer an option but an imperative, 2021). In addition, there is evidence that natural fibers are beneficial for our mental and physical health. I focused on sustainability and waste reduction when designing my collection, applied zero pattern cutting methods to some of my outfits and used plant-based, hand dyed production methods.

As a designer I want to focus on developing a sustainable practice to contribute to the zero waste movement. My greatest achievement this year is to be shortlisted to showcase my work on the Business of Fashion (BoF) website. In future, I would love to deepen my knowledge of traditional crafts and textile design. My studies at Manchester Metropolitan have broadened my skillset and my confidence and I feel ready to grow in the industry.
