Moving to Manchester and starting university was one of the biggest challenges I have faced. But 4 years later, I am as confident, strong, and determined as I have ever been. Not giving in to the struggle of adjusting and university life has allowed me to be the person I am today. For my final year I chose the topic of the role of buyer in the 21st century for my research project which discusses the importance of creativity and the impacts of digitalization of the role. Creativity is something I feel is key and I take pride in how I have shown my creativity in assignments over my time on the course. From presentations, to trade shows, to business plans, and now my final project, I have a portfolio that showcases my creative flair and developed knowledge. One of my favourite assignments included creating the brand ‘HXBRID’ where I learnt how to develop a product from concept to consumer.
Completing a placement year at N Brown as an assistant buyer on mens branded not only solidified my passion for the industry, but it gave me invaluable skills, experience, and connections that I will take into my future role. Paired with the skills and knowledge learnt from my degree in merchandising, sourcing strategy, design and buying, I secured multiple job offers and am looking forward to starting an exciting career as an assistant buyer at Missguided.
