Final Major Project: Creative Journeys App for Creative Conscience Awards, 2021. This project aims to show the breadth of careers and choices that can be accessed after choosing creative GCSEs, in response to their gradual decline in funding and governmental support, despite the creative sectors leading international stance. The app includes interviews with leading designers and set briefs, that are indicative of industry life. Graphic Design, Copy and Branding: Meg Parrott.

Meg Parrott

BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction 2021

Alongside my career as a Copywriter, my professional practise is multifaceted and spans three main accompanying spheres: Graphic Design, Art Direction and Styling. This has one unification, to champion interdisciplinary collaboration supported by research rooted in visual history. I find there are balances throughout my practise - analogue and digital, language and imagery, research and making. A close symbiosis, where tactile process is just as important as final product.

I draw inspirations from a range of visual sources, past and present, from the Antwerp Six, 20th Century subculture, Japanese design, Weimar Germany in the 1920s, Egon Schiele and Charles Jeffrey's LOVERBOY. Especially important are aesthetics that are somewhat unnerving, unorthodox or unusual, with portrayals of theatricality and history through a contemporary lens. Above all, I am passionate about design, and its place in solidifying the visual as a vehicle to drive, yet challenge, social and political dialogue. Throughout the duration of my degree, I have grown to realise my moral interests are just as important to me as aesthetic ones. That besides fashion, wider issues such as queer homelessness and championing arts education for instance, fuel my personal practise. And, my desire to not only produce a rich, varied body of work, but one that conveys my belief that design can be used to shape society for the better.
