Why Does Fashion Matter?

Fashion is more than just clothing—it’s a reflection of culture, identity, and societal change. Wear Abouts, our new student-led podcast investigates why fashion matters, providing a dynamic platform for students to explore industry insights, discuss pressing topics, and engage with influential thought leaders from across the creative sector. Through these conversations, we uncover the power of fashion in shaping the world around us.

The idea for Wear Abouts stemmed from a desire to connect some of our industry-ready students with our extensive network of industry professionals. By creating a space where students collaborate directly with these established and innovative figures, the podcast offers a unique opportunity for our emerging talent to gain hands-on experience in a public-facing project. Every aspect of our show, from production and hosting to audio engineering and branding, has been crafted by our students, providing them with invaluable, real-world experience. We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved so far.

Each year, Wear Abouts will be shaped by a new team of students, ensuring it continuously evolves with fresh perspectives and ideas. The first 2025 team includes:

The project is led by Alec Dudson, Senior Lecturer in Fashion Communication, with support from Danny Orwin, Lecturer in Fashion Film.

With its student-driven approach and high production values, Wear Abouts is a testament to the incredible talent being nurtured here at MFI. As the podcast continues to grow, we hope it will not only showcase the skills of our students but also highlight how the fashion industry embraces and supports the next generation of creative professionals.
