Fashion talks. It can disrupt, grab attention and make us laugh. It can also reflect cultural concerns and political protest.
Dr Benjamin Wild is an historian of the decorative arts. His research interests include the history of clothing and fashion, fancy dress costume, menswear and masculinities, and royal dress. His research involves him in a number of projects and media appearances including co-hosting a podcast, Dress: Fancy and a Channel 5 documentary earlier this year; Elizabeth I and Elizabeth II: Britain’s Golden Queen.
Previously, Benjamin has held positions at Conde Nast College of Fashion & Design, Sotheby’s Institute of Art and The Victoria and Albert Museum.
Benjamin presents this masterclass exploring the fun, power and humour associated with fancy dress as a communication tool, extending his analysis of historic and contemporary apparel to humorous messaging in broader marketing campaigns.
