Bethanie Watton
BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction 2020
I see myself as a multi-disciplinary artist specialising in styling, graphic design and art direction. Colour is an important aspect within my work as I like to produce a bold, playful aesthetic for the viewer. My work on Fashion Art Direction involves current concepts and themes of female/non-binary creatives and empowerment. Collaboration is a strong aspect of my work as I feel that working with other creatives with a variety of specialisms leads to the best outcomes, all of these interests contributed to the creation of my own online platform.
Honey is an online platform & non-profit initiative, connecting and empowering women/womxn creatives in the UK. The aim is that all female/non-binary creatives involved benefit from this space whether that be creatively through being inspired, connecting with others or by gaining a positive emotional experience by feeling empowered and motivated. Honey is also addressing inequality and misrepresentation in the industry through platforming the creative and editorial work of a female/non -binary creative community across a range of disciplinaries and written content, decisions on content are based on relevance and quality. My platform voices a generation of female and non-binary creatives which is current and constantly changing to keep up with the fashion industry. My project demonstrates a variety of visuals and written content along with collaborative work by many students, which I am hoping to build on even further by consistently updating the website with submissions and my own work creating a bigger community for Honey through the web page and Instagram account. The platforms are easily accessible from any device so that creatives can be inspired and connected wherever they are.
