First-Year Students Shine in END. x The North Face REMADE Workshop
10 December 2024
A hands-on upcycling experience with The North Face REMADE Capsule inspires creativity and sustainability in our first-year students.
During the first half of this semester, ten of our level 4 students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in an inspiring sustainability-focused workshop at END.’s Manchester store. The event celebrated the launch of the END. x The North Face REMADE Capsule, offering students a unique chance to combine creativity with circular fashion principles.
The workshop, led by experts from Create Sustain, introduced students to the art of upcycling. Using reclaimed North Face down jackets, our students designed and crafted their own accessories. This hands-on experience encouraged innovative thinking and aligned with our curriculum focus on sustainability.
“This workshop gave our new students a fantastic opportunity to engage with industry practices and sustainability right from the start of their journey at MFI,” said Anna Mangas, Lecturer. “It’s a great example of how we connect our students with industry opportunities to enrich their learning.”
Participants included Matthew Lindo, Shona Jasi, Ruby Bridges, Laura Blakey, Halle Anna Watkins, Amelia Grace Gerrelli, Duru Zümrüt, Tom Hendry, Ella Barnes, and Florence Hassell. The experience allowed our students to explore the practicalities of circular fashion while sparking new ideas for sustainable design.
Halle Watkins, one our students, highlighted the value of the event: “It was incredibly inspiring to work alongside an innovative brand like END. and to create something meaningful from upcycled materials. It’s an experience that has deepened my understanding of how sustainability and design can intersect.”
This event also served as a testament to our strong alumni network, as the opportunity was initiated by a graduate of our BSc. Fashion Business and Management programme.
The REMADE workshop marked an exciting beginning for our first-year students, demonstrating the real-world possibilities of sustainable fashion. A huge thank you to Endclothing and The North Face, and Create Sustain for making this event a memorable and educational experience.
