‘From Start to Finish’ celebrates Class of 2022 with catwalk show and exhibition

Manchester Fashion Institute at Manchester Metropolitan is launching From Start to Finish, an end-of-year graduate showcase celebrating the Class of 2022.

The work showcased in the catwalk shows, exhibition and the digital showcase explores a range of themes from the use of digital technology to sustainability.

Launching on Tuesday (May 17), From Start to Finish explores the process students have gone through to achieve their final output.

This could be the journey a student had made from recording their first sketch to creating their final garment or the process of working on a live industry brief and the stages involved from the initial concept to the finished project.

Professor Liz Barnes, Head of Manchester Fashion Institute at Manchester Metropolitan University, said: “It’s wonderful to be able to come together and celebrate the fantastic achievements of our 2022 graduates. We are enormously proud of what our students have achieved and I’m really looking forward to seeing the breadth of work presented in the catwalk shows, exhibition, and digital platform.”

The graduate showcase starts on Tuesday with two catwalk shows and an exhibition to celebrate the work and achievements of graduating students from fashion design and fashion communications.

It’s wonderful to be able to come together and celebrate the fantastic achievements of our 2022 graduates.

The first catwalk show will feature work from BA (Hons) Fashion which will take place in Manchester School of Art’s Benzie building at 6pm and will be followed by an exhibition of work from BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction and Fashion Art Promotion at 6.30pm in the Holden Gallery.

The second catwalk show will take place in the Benzie building at 7.30pm featuring collections from BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Technology followed by an afterparty taking place in The Grove in Grosvenor Building.

The Graduate Showcase digital platform will then launch on June 1 and will showcase the work of graduating students from across all Manchester Fashion Institute courses.

Collections from the catwalk shows will be selected by a panel of judges, to be put forward for a showcase of work at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week taking place from June 20 – 24.

The visual identity for From Start to Finish has been created using student sketches and work in progress images to reflect the journey students have been through.
