Leaders from Manchester Met’s prestigious Master of Sport Directorship were hosted by Manchester Fashion Institute last week.

Leaders from Manchester Met's prestigious Master of Sport Directorship (MSD) were hosted by Manchester Fashion Institute (MFI) last week. As part of their studies into creativity, innovation and change, the MSD students had the chance to learn about the creation of high tech apparel at Manchester Fashion Insitutute.  Mark Batey, leader of the MSD shared his thoughts behind this collaboration.  “Getting to see behind the scenes of how innovative clothing is designed and manufactured really helped our sporting leaders widen their understanding of how to lead for creativity and change.  The cross-fertilisation of ideas from one industry to another is something we encourage on our programme.”

Led by Anita Mitchell, Principal Lecturer Fashion, Manchester Fashion Institute, the students were able to try out for themselves a range of innovative 3D scanning and design tools as well as see demonstrations of the latest bonding and stitching techniques.  Anita added “We’ve made a significant investment in technology and equipment at Manchester Fashion Institute in the last year and it’s great to be able to share our expertise across other faculties and disciplines”

The collaboration between the Masters of Sport Directorship and Manchester Fashion Institute showcases some of the diversity in our new Institute of Sport, bringing opportunities for novel teaching and research.
