Born and raised in Belgium, I decided to move to the UK 4 years ago to open myself to a different culture and to find a place to express myself creatively. I am currently completing my three-year BA Fashion degree at Manchester Metropolitan University specialising in knitwear.
'Drama of the self' is a collection exploring the female anatomy using knitwear, with the aim to find and develop innovative ways of using knit and textile as clothing that are also sculptural pieces. I was inspired by the work of artists like Louise Bourgeois and the Belgian painter Paul Delvaux because of the way the approach the human body in their artworks. I draw inspiration from the natural body to create samples and work organically with the knit to produce garments that are a celebration of the materials and the different techniques of knitting. I use different ways to avoid waste like knitting fully fashion pieces or working from big pieces of knit and hand stitch them together on the stand to fit pattern pieces and create new shapes. These garments were also made using dead stock yarns and natural fibres.
