Clothing Product Development MSC
“The lecturers are not only great at teaching they also take time to get to know you and to support you and to help you to further network and develop your links with the clothing industry.”
My home town
Berlin, Germany
Why I chose this course
I originally completed my undergraduate degree at Albstadt in Germany and then worked as a garment technologist for a young fashion brand in Germany. Having gained this experience I decided I wanted to learn more about functional apparel and I remembered that whilst studying at Albstadt quite a few of my friends had done an exchange to study here and they had told me how great an experience they had at Manchester Metropolitan University and that Manchester was an amazing city. Having done some further research on the best place to undertake a Master’s Degree Manchester Metropolitan University came out on top.
A day in the life
I usually arrive at University around 9.30am and work in the Product Development studios and laboratories in between lectures, seminars and tutorials. Other days I will work in the University library, which is open twenty-four hours, and this gives me a lot of flexibility especially as I have a part time job working as a residential advisor for the University’s halls of residence. The city of Manchester enables me to enjoy a vibrant social life and its bars, clubs and restaurants are relatively inexpensive.
My work placement
I have been able to apply the skills that I have developed within the University and on the course, having gained a paid part time role supporting research into 3D body scanning technology for industry sizing.
Why I would recommend this course to others
I would recommend this course because of Manchester Fashion Institute’s resources, which are arguably the best in the country. The library is so well stocked and managed, and the lecturers are not only great at teaching they also take time to get to know you, support you and help you further network and develop your links with the clothing industry.
