BA (Hons) Fashion Buying & Merchandising, International Placement Student
Tell us about your placement
I completed a split placement across 14 months, starting as a Design Intern at global supply chain management company, Li & Fung, based in New York. This was hugely beneficial as it gave me great industry exposure and opportunities to meet industry professionals and travel around the USA.
I then completed eight months at Ralph Lauren PFS in London working in the buying department. This part of my placement was especially valuable as it helped me to understand which way to take my career. After completing it I knew that I wanted to work in buying.
Your plans or aspirations for the future?
After graduation I secured my dream graduate role at H&M as an Assistant Buyer and relocated to Stockholm in August 2018. This opportunity would not have been possible without Manchester Fashion Institute, their industry contacts and encouragement to pursue experience in the field.
What advice would you give to potential student who might be considering the course?
My biggest tip would be to make yourself memorable (in a good way) whether that’s through your dress sense, your academic background, your personality or even hobbies and interests. I also think it’s so important to be yourself and be honest. Take on board all advice, whether its positive or negative – it’s all useful.
