Tell us about your study abroad/placement
I was lucky enough to go to India for four months as part of a study abroad programme, based in a university in Jaipur. I learnt a lot, and it gave me an interesting cultural
insight and in-depth knowledge of the production process of clothing in India. I then travelled to Germany and worked for six months as a Merchandising Administrative Assistant at the Adidas head office. This gave me invaluable experience working in a large, global company.
My placement year was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I loved it. I had two very different experiences and the learning experiences from two very different parts of the world gave me fantastic industry insight. It has made me feel prepared to work in any area of the industry, as I know I can work outside of my comfort zone.
What opportunities did you have outside of normal teaching?
I travelled to Shanghai as part of a study trip, where we visited a number of different factories and head offices; it was very interesting to see how things work internationally. I feel that gaining experience in different cultures, and developing an understanding of how other countries operate in the fashion industry has been very beneficial for my future career.
What advice would you give to potential students who might be considering the course?
Be prepared to take yourself out of your comfort zone, exploring different areas of the fashion industry and trying new things will be the best decision you ever make.
