BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion

"My experience during the fashion promotion course has been second to none and a memorable experience I will cherish for a very long time."

 The Course

When looking at other courses out there, the Fashion Promotion course stood out to me as it merged my passion for marketing and also helped unleash my creativity. I have always had a desire to work within fashion sustainability whether that’s targeting towards environmental or ethical. This course really focuses on current market problems and trends and encourages us all to help transform fashions future for the best.

Teaching

My experience during the fashion promotion course has been second to none and a memorable experience I will cherish for a very long time. The tutors are always looking for unique ways to enhance our skills within a variety of multi media techniques through technology, sustainability, community and other market trends. The course taught me the variety of job roles within the fashion industry and allowed personal flexibility to aim for what we desired whether that be photography, marketing, pr, art direction… the list goes on.

Favourite Project

My final project was to create a brand that responds to the current market. I chose the urban outdoor market targeting young women as they have been woefully underrepresented in the industry.

My brand – The Kensho Concept aimed to be the central hub and voice for women’s outdoor and functional fashion market with a vision to diminish and push the boundaries of feminine stereotypes. Creating conversation, community, and opportunity to go outside, explore, and escape the concrete jungle through an online platform and experiential concept store. Stocking for women who admire style, high quality, and functional pieces that can be used for work, outdoors, and everything in between. Ensuring a safe space, wearing clothes that look good and serves a purpose while having little impact on nature.

For my final deliverables I created the branding, fashion film, editorial for out of home and social media marketing, a website and a mock up of the concept store.

Placement/Study trips

Throughout my time at university, I had the chance to attend Copenhagen Fashion week, I managed to win a trip to Delhi, India through my grades and secured a year placement at Nike European Headquarters in Amsterdam as the Nike Women’s brand Intern.

My placement was incredible as I had the chance to work alongside the leading marketing team in the world. Whilst elevating women in the sports industry. I worked closely with the Nike SB team specifically to elevate female skateboarders. However, my main highlight of the experience was seeing a personal project through from beginning to end. I left with a legacy due to changing the shipping methods of sports Bras from boxes to envelopes which may not seem to be a big deal but overall had a substantial decrease in packaging wastage, CO2 and costs for a company that sells thousands of sports bras a day.

Plans for the future

Over the 4 year period, I have managed to find my voice within the industry. The course in conjunction with my placement year at Nike has given me the confidence to start up my own content creations and communications agency with my best friend that I met on the fashion promotion course.

Advice to prospective students

Overall, the best thing about the course is the flexibility and freedom you’re given to explore the creative fashion industry. This allowed everyone to unleash their individuality and everyone’s outcomes were extremely unique and out of the ordinary.
