Kat Scott
Senior Lecturer, Fashion Design
Kat is a Senior Lecturer on the BA Fashion course- where she teaches across the department. Kat develops projects with international collaboration and industry at their core.
The projects she has developed at MFI- have included:
- Collaborative project with Hirdaramani, Sri Lanka and Denim Consultant, Stella McCartney- Sustainable Denim Project
- Unit X- a cross-disciplinary project in collaboration with Wuhan Textiles University and Macclesfield Silk Museum
- Pearl Academy x MFI- a Collaborative Online International Learning Project
Kat was a design educator based in South East Asia for over 7 years. Specializing in textile design with experience in lecturing at universities to designing textiles for international companies and creating two own brand collections for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. During her time there she:
- Built, managed and taught on the Fashion and Textiles Course (BA Hons) and Design Foundation as Programme Leader in Sri Lanka at AOD an affiliate of Northumbria University, UK.
- Graduated from Northumbria University with a MA in Creative and Cultural Industries Management with a thesis specialized in the future of Sri Lanka’s creative industries.
- Worked on Sri Lanka Design Festival (www.srilankadesignfestival.lk)
- Worked closely with the heritage craft industries and communities and the hi-tech garment manufacturing industries to develop collaborative projects across Sri Lanka.
- A CIRCO certified trainer- a programme focused on the circular economy and sustainability.

Academy of Design (AOD) is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Delivering the full degree programme from Northumbria University, it comprises of a faculty of designers from across the globe. All courses at AOD follow Northumbria University module guidelines but are adapted to suit a South Asian context to align with regional requirements of industry as well as to adapt to the opportunities and resources within the country. All project briefs are written using UK Higher Education Quality Guidelines each semester and approved by academic faculty at Northumbria University. AOD is also behind some of the most powerful design initiatives in the country, such as Sri Lanka Design Festival, Island Craft Project, Urban Island and fashionmarket.lk creating opportunities for students.
