Dr Songyi Yan joined Manchester Fashion Institute as a Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Fashion Management. Her research focuses on sustainability, circular economy, and microfibre pollution within the context of the fashion industry. Songyi’s work on microfibre pollution has received the prestigious 3rd place award for the Professor Michael J Baker Doctoral Thesis Awards in 2023. Songyi’s work has been published in the Journal of Fashion Marketing & Management and Sustainability in the Textile and Apparel Industries. Songyi is further the journal reviewer for Journal of Consumer Behaviour, European Journal of Marketing and Journal of Marketing Management, and an Extended Board Member of the Sustainable Fashion Consumption Network. Songyi has a strong research interest in interdisciplinary research, she has been actively engaging in collaborative projects with academics and researchers from diverse fields (e.g., textile science, computer science, engineering). Originating from China, she pursued undergraduate studies in Fashion Design in France and gained practical experience as a fashion designer before embarking on her doctoral journey. Outside of her academic commitments, Songyi enjoys trail running.
