Christian Kuhwald
Senior Lecturer, Creative Pattern Cutting
I am an accomplished creative pattern cutter who works with designers to create and develop their unique luxury garments. After 15 years of working in the fashion industry for brands such as Loewe, Qasimi, Mary Katrantzou, Alexander McQueen, Ralph and Russo, Roland Mouret, Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham and Casablanca. I have expertise in sculpting and engineering fabric using classic and contemporary pattern cutting and construction methods. Stunning silhouettes with balanced proportions and fit reflect the harmony between the concept, consumer and materials used.
My collaborative work has been presented on the catwalks at London and Paris fashion weeks and has featured in well known publications worldwide such as Vogue, Elle, Grazia, 10 magazine, Harpers Bazaar and Wallpaper.
I hold a First class degree in Clothing Design and Technology from Manchester Metropolitan University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Innovative Pattern Cutting from Central Saint Martins College London and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.
My research interests are in innovative teaching methods within creative pattern cutting, 3D design and virtual technology.
