Students from across the BA (Hons) International Fashion Promotion course and the Foundation Year at Manchester Fashion Institute recently took a study trip to New York City

On touching down in New York, students and staff had the afternoon to explore and get to know the city. On their first full morning, they had the opportunity to listen to a talk from Manchester Fashion Institute alumni Ruari Mahon, Founder of Loughlin Joseph and former Global Head of Public Relations and Communications at Nudie Jeans. Following this, the students visited The Met Museum’s Costume Institute to view the collection of more than 35,000 costumes and accessories.

On their second day, the group visited the Museum of Modern Art in Midtown Manhattan to visit an exhibition titled ‘What is Fashion?’ and then explored the Soho area of the city. During the trip, the group also visited the local Fashion Schools in New York. They went to Parsons School of Design and received a tour from one of the students and talk from Shelley Fox, Programme Director of their MFA Fashion Design and Society. They then visited the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York where they were given a talk from two of their promotion lecturers who specialised in styling and fashion events. The final day was spent visiting the retail spaces and galleries in Brooklyn.
