Students take home prizes at Phoenix Cup

FASHION students have enjoyed international success at the Phoenix Cup Competition, in Ningbo, China.

Manchester School of Art took home three of the competition’s top prizes, with Rebecca Carrington winning the £5,000 gold prize, Rachel Sheppard taking the runner-up spot with the silver prize and Sophie Martin claiming the Creative Award.

Sophie said: “Winning an award at the Phoenix Cup is a once in a life time experience. It was a great experience to show my collection on a different platform internationally.

“My graduate collection, “Heritage”, was inspired by my father’s clothing and Godmother’s antique shop. Producing prints and knit around my research of their journey to England and their successes, I based my narrative around my father and godmother to design and make a unisex collection featuring oversized silhouettes and menswear details throughout.”
