Student Opportunities

International

We aim to provide our students with as many international ventures as possible. Our courses offer unparalleled opportunities to experience the global fashion industry, including: International industry placements, International study trips, study abroad and exchanges and expenses paid international competitions.

Exchange opportunities

All of our undergraduate programmes offer an option to study abroad at one of our partner universities in countries including Australia, China, the USA and over 20 countries across Europe.

Depending on the course of study, this could be integrated into year two or as an additional year abroad in year three of a four-year degree programme.

There are a number of exchange opportunities open to students of any discipline.

Manchester Fashion Institute offers the chance to take part in an international sandwich year during 3rd year of study, which consists of spending half the year studying abroad, and half the year in a work placement either abroad or in the UK. In order to complete your sandwich year, you must successfully complete 4-6 months studying abroad and 18 weeks in one or more industry work placements.

International Placements & Internships

As part of your chosen undergraduate degree there will be opportunities to complete either an industry internship or work placement. You will also study a unit that looks at complex approaches to CVs and job applications, where to look for jobs, how to self-promote and how to find support after graduation.

Every year our second year students secure a number of international placements with global fashion companies. From Design to Buying, Marketing to Merchandising, the placements vary greatly and allow our students to get hands-on global experience.

Our students recognise the value of hands-on industry experience, on average approx. 40% of our second year students secure a one year full-time placement. Those that secure international placements go to global companies such as:

Coach, Li & Fung, Hugo Boss & Theory New York,  Concept4 Hong Kong,  H&M Stockholm, Lee (VFC) Brussels, NA-KD Gothenburg, Next Sri Lanka, Old Navy San Francisco, Portwest Ireland,  Puma SE & Adidas AG Germany, PVH Tommy Hilfiger & PVH Calvin Klein Amsterdam,  Saysky Copenhagen.
