Academic and professional qualifications

I am currently a Lecturer in Product Development within the Manchester Fashion Institute. In my current academic role I specialise in apparel technnology, teaching on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology - Sportswear pathway and supporting students to realise their design ideas.

Having gained my undergraduate (BA Hons) and post-graduate (MSc) degrees I worked in the fashion industry for a number of years, before returning to Manchester Metropolitan University to study for my PhD. Since becoming a lecturer I have also been awarded a PG Cert in Academic practice.

Previous Employment

Prior to joining the Manchester Fashion Institute as a lecturer, I worked in the outdoor sports industry for 10 years as both a Product Developer and Designer for brands TOG24, Toggi and Splashdown, with experience in mens, womens and childrenwear.

Research

Research Interests

Following completion of my PhD, my interests continue to lie in product development and clothing comfort, particularly in the field of outdoor performance wear. I am currently collaborating with colleagues in the Sports Science department to develop and test a protective face mask for a client competing in the 6633 Arctic ultra-event (due to start Spring 2017).

Other research interests include; user centred design for performance clothing and innovative application of stitch free joining technologies.
