Research

Research Interests

My MPhil research focused on the internationalisation strategies of UK SME clothing suppliers; the primary research method was case studies.

The industry is dominated by SMEs who significantly contribute to the economy however little is know about their internationalisation strategies. I examined how these businesses expanded their distribution operations from the UK to overseas markets and concluded that the entrepreneurs are critical to this process because they create unique work cultures and surround themselves with knowledgeable staff. However, because the market place is fast changing, the entrepreneur quick decision-making enabled their business to respond to market demands with agility. I found that there are four main elements to an internationalisation strategy : the business environment, the market entry strategies, the supply chains and the quality systems.
