Biography
I have worked as a lecturer within the Manchester Fashion Institute for the last 13 years. I am business focused within my teaching and research, combined with a love for fashion, interest in visual communication, marketing and consumer behaviour.

I joined MMU in 2010 teaching on the BSc(Hons) Fashion Buying and Merchandising and BSc(Hons) International Fashion Marketing programmes. In 2014 I gained senior lecture status and took on the role of programme leader of BA (Hons) International Fashion Promotion. My specialist area of expertise is fashion marketing.

I have been a year tutor and employability lead throughout my time at MMU across a number of programmes and levels within the Manchester Fashion Institute. A keen interest in student’s personal development, academic progress, achievement, career readiness aspirations and transitions into and out of university education.

Previous Employment

My background within the fashion industry has spanned 15 years across a variety of retail organisations. I worked as retail manager for a number of brands, including managing my own store and a team of 15 employees. I have also worked as an assistant buyer and trend researcher for a large sports retailer.

Her industry background, has enabled Gemma to bring her vast experience into the classroom as a Senior Lecturer. Gemma has taught at all levels from Foundation to Masters, with subjects spanning fashion buying, marketing, promotion, consumer behaviour, applying her knowledge and experience to the following programmes:

Research

Research Interests

Research interests include Fashion Business, Sustainability, Marketing, Consumer Behaviour, Teaching and Learning.
