TRANSFORM
Growing up in a very female dominated family has naturally inspired my design work to incorporate concepts relating to female identity, encompassing themes of sexism and feminism, this has always organically been translated into Womenswear. I enjoy creating a narrative with underlying humour, but with the focus being women’s struggle in modern society, allowing a more positive outlook. My graduate collection, 'TRANSFORM' evolves from the translation of Menswear into Womenswear, exploring the Extinction of the Y Chromosome, reflecting on the evolution around the male body and its ideology of perfectionism, contrasting with female identity and extremities such as Misandrists. I use print, texture and silhouette when considering designs, gravitating towards tailoring and utilitarian research garments as inspiration. I like to design for ready to wear, creating looks for the modern day, work hard play hard woman, needing something that can be transformed from day to night as well as being understatedly sexy.
