Lily Cleal BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Technology (Sportswear)
As a designer I specialise in sportswear and technical performance products. I enjoy working with new technologies and designing garments that are innovative and functional. As part of my degree, I completed a year-long placement working at Portwest as a Trainee Junior Product Manager for the Hi-Visibility team, this experience allowed me to develop my knowledge and understanding of how the industry works.
My graduate collection ‘The 107%’ is heavily inspired by Formula 1. My concept looks into combining the old and the new within the F1 sphere (i.e., the aesthetic of F1 from the 60s to the 90s and the modern fabrics and construction techniques used today) as well as integrating streetwear silhouettes into the collection. I wanted to look into creating a range of hybrid garments which can be worn both on and off the track to meet driver needs throughout an F1 season and allow them to look good whilst performing to a high level.
I began my final year by developing a hiking outfit inspired by Dandyism. This challenged me to bridge between sportswear and streetwear and bring a unique and new take to hiking apparel.
