University impress in the Fashion School Rankings

Undergraduate fashion courses taught within Manchester School of Art have been ranked 16th in the world according to the Business of Fashion’s (BoF) Global Fashion School Rankings 2016.

The courses BA (Hons) Fashion and BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction in the Department of Design, now part of the Manchester Fashion Institute, were both ranked highly. Their success in part was credited to the innovative, contemporary and highly creative nature of the courses.

The Global Fashion School Rankings measure institutes on their global influence, the quality of learning experience and the long-term value of the course for preparing students and graduate for careers in the fashion industry.

The BoF looked at 54 global institutions and considered feedback from over 10,000 students and alumni, HR professionals, global fashion influencers and fashion school academics.

Quality and creativity

Joe McCullagh, Head of Design, Manchester School of Art, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the international rankings of our fashion courses in the School. We are all extremely proud of this outstanding achievement. The success comes from a real team approach all the way from our committed admin, technical, finance, marketing and academic teams. At the heart of this achievement is our incredibly talented students and academics. This international ranking is a real testament to the quality and creativity of our programmes. Congratulations all!”

Susan Atkin, Programme Leader for Fashion, said: “Manchester School of Art's ranking in the BoF table of best schools is testament to both the staff and students who are part of the creativity and innovation of these programmes and the School as a whole. This is achieved through an "art school" approach of experimentation, contextualisation and cross discipline working, underpinned by technical knowledge and, of course, drawing.”
